Riverdale Country School is a preK – 12 day school in New York City that combines both traditional and innovative practices to provide an excellent Liberal Arts learning environment. Riverdale’s Language Department seeks an enthusiastic and collegial teacher of Latin who can teach a wide range of students at the novice and honors level in both the Middle and Upper School. A passion for lifelong learning, both in the classics and more broadly, characterizes our ideal candidate. This may be demonstrated through scholarship, travel abroad, in one’s intellectual pursuits, or in any of a number of other ways. While we have two sections that are uncovered for next year, there is a chance of the position becoming full-time in the following year.
All candidates for Riverdale teaching positions should demonstrate an interest in engaging students in an environment that is both supportive and rigorous and will participate in community activities including advising groups, service opportunities, or other co-curricular activities. Our Middle School and Upper School are located together on the Hill Campus, so candidates who demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching across the divisions are especially attractive. A Bachelor’s degree is required; Masters and Doctoral degree holders will receive additional consideration, as will those with prior teaching experience.
In addition to two sections of Latin, we may also be looking for part-time teaching in the language program more broadly. Those who have multiple language skills will be particularly attractive.
