The CAES board of directors is delighted to announce that registration is now open for its Annual Institute, which will be at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, on Friday-Saturday, October 26-27 2018 (https://www.caesny.org/p/annual-institute.html). The registration deadline is October 12.
Not only will the gathering be held on this idyllic campus in the Spa City, but also our keynote speaker will be Daniel Gallagher of Cornell University. Formerly the Latin secretary to Popes Benedict and Francis, Professor Gallagher will discuss how his predecessor at the Vatican, renowned Latinist Fr. Reginald Foster, influenced his approach to teaching Latin. In addition, he will offer two workshops promulgating his methods. Other presentations by both professors and teachers will address pedagogy, history, and Roman culture.
As for travel and hotel information, the Amtrak station in Saratoga Springs is just over two miles from the campus, and a limited number of rooms are available for $175 per night at the Embassy Suites, 86 Congress St., Saratoga Springs, NY (518-290-9090).
If this is your first conference, you may be eligible for the Donna Cadwell Scholarship, which would substantially defray expenses incurred at the Institute. Also, the Joseph A. Crisafulli Scholarship is available to cover the cost of registration. Applications for both are due September 15. For scholarships, workshop proposals, program updates, and registration information, visit www.caesny.org.
We on the board hope to see you at the conference–et fer sodalem!
Ex animo,
John Mooney
