Poly Prep seeks applicants for a Middle and Upper School Latin teacher. The position requires knowledge of and or practice in Latin pedagogy and classical culture. The candidate must be flexible in terms of teaching assignments across divisions. Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Latin or Classics (Masters preferred). Ability to teach Ancient Greek not essential but desirable. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching, a love for learning and working with students, families and colleagues, and a sense of humor.
Duties include:
Teaching:
- Latin Levels A (Grade 7/Middle School Introductory) through AP;
- Willingness to meet with students on an individual basis as needed;
- Eagerness to keep up with developments in the field and amend and develop curricula as necessary, including courses in Classical Culture in translation;
- Ability to keep accurate grades, effectively communicate with students and families, and provide feedback on student progress consistently throughout the school year.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assume role as an advisor for a group of students (7-10)
- Advise a club or activity
- Attendance at community events throughout the school year
- Commitment to professional development
- Attendance and engagement in meetings during and after the school school day including but not limited to: department, committee, divisional and grade level meetings.
